FAQ

Short answers to the questions third-party developers ask most.

Does it cost anything?

No. There is no payment and no sign-up. The anchors run on a free tier that is shared with the Cinderous messenger, which is why the limits exist.

Can I add it to Damus, Primal or another social client?

It will not work well. Social clients connect to the root path and ask for global feeds; both are refused. App lanes are for apps written against them.

Can other people read my lane?

Yes, if they know a filter that matches your events. Lanes separate storage; they are not access control. Encrypt anything private, for example with NIP-44.

Why did my events disappear?

Most likely your lane is a public lane, where stored events live for 2 hours unless updated. See Retention and storage and Choosing an app id.

Can my app read Cinderous messages?

No. App lanes use separate storage that never contains Cinderous messenger events.

Can I run my own?

Yes — see the self-hosting guide. Your own deployment has its own quota.
