Proof of work

#Status

The relay can require NIP-13 proof of work on app lanes. The difficulty is 0 today because existing clients do not mine. If it is turned on, it will be announced in the resources page first.

#What it applies to

• Only stored events. Ephemeral events (20000–29999) are never checked.
• Only app lanes. The Cinderous messenger never requires it.
• A rejected event gets OK false with a reason starting with pow:.

#Preparing for it

Supporting NIP-13 mining now costs little and makes the switch invisible to your users. nostr-tools ships nip13; the Cinderous core package has minePow with an iteration cap.
